Oleksandr Dovzhenko’s 1930 silent film EARTH is a milestone in world cinema – poetic, political, and of breathtaking visual power.
It tells of the upheaval of rural life in Ukraine, caught between tradition, progress, and collective dreams.
With its radical images and emotional depth, the film seems surprisingly modern today.
In 2012, EARTH was extensively restored and was complemented by a new, powerful soundtrack by the Ukrainian music project DakhaBrakha.
Celebrated by film critics worldwide, it is considered one of the 30 best films of all time.
A cinematic experience that makes history tangible – and is more relevant than you might think.
With Ukrainian intertitles and English subtitles.
